About Our Practice

Carole A. Rumberger, MSN, NP, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Intro

Carole Rumberger is a psychiatric nurse practitioner with extensive experience in the mental health field as a therapist, nurse, and nurse practitioner. Her goal is to help patients holistically to improve their overall health. Her definition of health goes beyond the mental and physical. It also includes genetics, upbringing, social experiences, spirituality, and even matters of finances. With this belief, Carole includes all areas of the patient’s concerns and health into the treatment plan. She also believes that it is important to involve patients in their health decisions. Furthermore, she helps patients focus on their strengths to overcome life’s challenges.

“A Calling”

Carole considers her career in mental health a calling. In early childhood, she had a strong desire to help others. As an adolescent, she developed a strong interest in psychology. However, she veered from her roots in early adulthood to achieve a successful career as a software engineer. Eventually, the call to help others drew her back to the mental health field.

Education

To prepare for her calling, Carole first obtained a master’s degree in counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. She then worked as a therapist in the areas of intimate partner violence, addictions, and foster care. Eventually, Carole realized that the missing piece in her abilities was in the area of health. This led her to pursue a degree in nursing and become a psychiatric nurse. To complete her education, she obtained a master of science degree in nursing at Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY. This prepared her for a career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Since her formal training, Carole remains current in the field by reading and attending conferences.

Experience and Interests

Carole has interests in cognitive processing therapy for trauma, behavioral techniques for ADHD, and the use of medications to improve functioning. She is a Christian, trained in Christian counseling and theophostic ministry. For patients who desire to include their Christian faith, Carole also includes a biblical perspective into sessions. However, Carole welcomes clients from all faiths and beliefs, and she enjoys and appreciates the diverse backgrounds of her patients.

Carole began her career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner at Albany Medical Center. She then worked at Mentisano, where she became more independent and honed her skills as a nurse practitioner in private practice. Now she is very excited to open her own practice, a dream that she has had for many years. As she looks to the future, she hopes that Auxano will serve the needs of many people.
